A new REWE To Go store has launched in Terminal 1 of Frankfurt Airport – the first cashierless store at an airport in Germany.

Airport operator Fraport and Lekkerland, a subsidiary of the REWE Group, officially opened the unmanned convenience store at the end of February. The pilot store is located in the public arrivals area of the terminal on Level 1 in Section B and can be used by visitors, travellers and employees alike.
“Frankfurt Airport is a perfect location for this special REWE To Go, which enables fast and convenient supply around the clock,” adds Mehmet Tözge, Vice President Smart Stores at Lekkerland.
The AI-powered store does not need cash registers or sales staff, as cameras record which products customers take. When they leave the store, the invoice amount is automatically debited from the cashless payment method that was scanned when they entered.
This new 70 m2 REWE To Go pilot smart store adds to Lekkerland’s network of over 20 unmanned stores nationwide. Through this location, the company wants to gain experience with the use of this concept at airports.
