Cepsa and Redexis launch the first global photovoltaic energy network

February 17, 2022

Redexis and Cepsa have started to create the first global network of renewable energy generating service stations in Europe.

The plan of both companies includes completing the installation of photovoltaic panels in the entire network of Cepsa service stations in Spain and Portugal in 2023.

Currently, these panels have already been installed in 75 service stations and both companies plan to finish 2021 with more than 200 photovoltaic installations executed.

To carry out this project, more than 40,000 high-tech photovoltaic panels with a production capacity will be used of more than 32,800 MWh per year, equivalent to the annual energy consumption of 11,000 homes.

At the signing ceremony of the agreement, held at the Cepsa Tower, Pierre-Yves Sachet, Cepsa’s commercial director, highlighted: “Cepsa’s objective is to accelerate the energy transition, both in our operations and in the energy solutions we offer to our clients.

The fact that our network of service stations becomes the first complete network in Europe to generate renewable energy is a big step in this direction and a clear signal to our customers that our transition is underway. “

For her part, Cristina Ávila, CEO of Redexis, highlighted: “At Redexis we are delighted to sign this agreement with Cepsa as it allows us to make a very significant leap in our solar photovoltaic activity.

This strategic alliance with Cepsa helps us to reinforce our commitment to renewable energies and the energy transition, reducing emissions and promoting clean and sustainable activity ”.

These panels will serve to supply Cepsa’s service stations during the day, while the surplus will be poured into the distribution network, thus optimizing the global energy efficiency of the facilities and allowing 100% of the service station network to consume renewable electricity.

Cepsa operates the second largest network of stations in Iberia, with more than 1,800 establishments, located in strategic locations, both in urban areas and in the main transport corridors and nodes, where it offers multi-energy solutions and other complementary services for professional clients and private users.

The company is working on a profound plan to give a green turn to all its businesses and become a benchmark in the energy transition, in which renewable energies will play a leading role.

Redexis will take care of the installation, start-up and maintenance of the panels. In this way, the company has been promoting its commitment to renewable energies for more than three years in this line of business in which it develops solutions for photovoltaic solar installations for homes, businesses and industries, thus promoting self-consumption and sustainable energy in the entire national scope, relying on its wide geographic presence and its network of collaborators to extend its current offer of energy facilities to the field of solar self-consumption.

Redexis already operates more than 1,200 kWp of photovoltaic solar energy capacity, with a total of 50 solar projects in Spain and currently has nearly 3,300 kWp under construction in different phases of development in all types of sectors such as industry, services, distribution or the domestic market.

The company expects to end 2021 with more than 9,000 kWp of photovoltaic solar energy capacity in operation, which means avoiding 3,375 tons of CO2 per year in emissions and savings in electricity consumption.
